Immobilizing the trolls
Sup' NB, like most of you know, we've had to endure a lot of trolling for the last months (although it's been pretty silent for the last couple days, thank God for that ^^) and I wanted to discuss with you a solution I think could help fix that problem.
The main problem is obviously the time that most mods are inactive in the evening, where the trolls see a chance to troll without getting banned, and start spamming the forums, while there's no one able to stop them, since no one can ban them.
My solution is pretty simple for the most part, just adding a feature on the site where your account would be immobilized temporarily, after getting reported enough times. The member wouldn't necessarily have to get banned, he'd just not be allowed to post on threads/profiles, until a mod has taken the time to check on that certain member's action, banning him or lifting the immobilization according to the member's actions which led to the immobilization.
So let's say, that if a member gets reported ten times in a 24 hour time-span, (the time limit would be necessary to prevent inconvenience for people who's reports have stacked up over a long amount of time) he wouldn't be allowed to post on the forum until a mod comes online and decides whether the member should be banned or if the immobilization should be lifted.
I personally think this could work, and it would suddenly help against the trolls which come online while the mods are offline, since the members on this site could prevent that troll for posting, minimizing the inconvenience for the people that came to NB to actually have real discussions ^^
Anyways, thanks for reading, I hope you'll consider it, I'm sorry if this has been posted before
tl;dr: My suggestion is like this: If a member is reported ten times in the span of 24 hours he'll be temporarily prevented from posting, until a mod comes online and decides whether the person should be banned or not. It could help with the troll problem, but wouldn't inconvenience other members, as no one is going to be reported ten times without deserving it :y
EDIT: To prevent this system from being abused, the ten reports would have to be from ten different members! OR maybe different IP addresses, to prevent alts :y

Re: Immobilizing the trolls
Nice idea but people could abuse it. They could just report someone they don't like ten times.

Re: Immobilizing the trolls
Adding to Danzo, if someone makes a controversial topic on Naruto Discussion for example ¬_¬ then he is bound to get haters... knowing some people there it is going to be very common, therefore that system can be abused very easily. Nice suggestion though ^_^

Yeah the things that can stop trolls tend to be abused by other members.

Still, I don't think people get reported often for something like that At least not ten times in one day
Thanks :D

Re: Immobilizing the trolls
Good idea, but easy to abuse.
How about a Mod-button? If someone is an obvious troll, he doesn't get dislikes or anything, but a Mod get notified, checks if it is indeed a troll and deals with it

Re: Immobilizing the trolls
With doing that you'd have to limit the amount of reports someone could give out. If not, like Danzo said, it will be abused.

Well, I think the report button pretty much works that way And even so, it wouldn't really help with the problem of the trolls that flood in at the time most mods are inactive :y

I said it hasn't been as bad as it was at one point a few weeks ago :y
The trolls have been pretty silent recently, of course there always pops up one and one, but it's not as bad as when those guy's were making threads like ----'s slave, etc :D

That's true, I guess, but your way is just as well impracticle. Troll stick together like heroin-junkies, if ten trolls are on a tread they'll abuse it just as easily.
It's agood idea in general, but it needs alot of work to be fully assh*le-proof.

Re: Immobilizing the trolls
They just hired a mod for the appropriate time zone to counter the trolls that get on when the mods are offline.
Problem solved.

Well, I don't think there are normally ten trolls online at the same time tbh

Well, sure, but it'd be hard if he'd have to take care of it every night by himself.

Exactly this, I thought this was the reason they even opened a mod application.

That would work a lot better than people spamming reports. But even if someone were to report you 10 times and immobilized your account. When a mod sees the reports were unjust they would probably ban the member anyways.

Possibly, but if we have another slave society attack, it'd be hard for that one person to take care of it night after night.
Also, if you're the real Wumbo, why did you make a serious comment..? That's not very Wumbo like...Are you an imposter...
