Loved it. Love how unohana is not actually evil but trying to get zaraki to let loose. Loved the background. Loved the visuals of the chapter. Bleach manga has a perfect visual look to it. Always has and from time to tim it still surprises me.

To know that Kid Zarachi was stronger than Unohana, that's freaking awesome. It just shows how strong Zarachi really is, and that he's been holding back forever.

Eh this chapter was pretty decent I don't like that idea of how Kenpachi was stronger then her when he was a kid smh if that was true then he would be in class of the old man which I know for a fact that he is no where near the level of power in this manga/anime contradict itself. If what she said is true then Kenpachi is as strong as Shunsui and Ukitake and I call BS on that note.

It still seems a bit of Kubo trying too hard. There's overpowered, and then there's just plain old hax. It's also kind of sad if you think about it. Kenpachi won't ever progress. He'll merely return to being his former self

So kid Kenpachi was stronger than Unohana and after fighting her he subconsciously suppressed his power against low levels to feel the excitement he felt fighting her. Imagine if he didn't fight her and continued to progress rather than decline. It's no wonder that Yama didn't want to train himself, he and Unohana probably knew what he was doing but let it pass otherwise he would have wiped out everyone.

It's not progress if you're reverting back to your old self

I would assume his progression would be towards actually using his Zanpaktou...learning it's name and eventually achieving bankai. That's assuming a lot but really after this portion, that's as far as Zaraki can go.

OT:This chapter was a chapter of necessity. We needed the background story behind the two Kenpachi's before the rest of the storyline could progress. I have mixed feelings about kid-Zaraki being stronger than Unohana at that time. So with Unohana "killing" Zaraki over and over, is this what was meant by one of the Kenpachi would have to die? Or is it that as Zaraki ascends to power, Unohana loses her title as Kenpachi and it is a metaphorical death? Either way is fine with me as long as they both survive the battle.

On another note, I know they need Zaraki's strength in this current battle but I wonder if he fully regresses to his old self (and after defeating the Sternretter) if he'll stay a squad captain or go back to roaming Soul Society looking for a stronger opponent.

it is progress if you are making yourself stronger then your current self, revert would imply that he is getting weaker then he is currently

Don't take the word “reverting” so literal. Sure Kenpachi is turning back to his “former self” but that's only because there's something vital in the past he needs to recover from to fully accomplish growth. Right now he is at a standstill regarding his power and it's because of something that happened in the past. He isn't reverting to being a kid or a psycho if that's what you're implying. He's simply trying to become a “normal being” again. I know that isn't really possible because he's a freak of nature but still....
Take an example; people with fear of something (maybe snakes) sometimes have some obstacle that happened in the past hindering them from growing. That person needs to go back in time and confront his or her fears in order to become a normal functioning person.
I'm not trying to start a fight I just wanted to point out that you don't have to take things so literal unless you have a valid argument for your opinion (other than the meaning of “reverting”) :D

I wouldn't say Kid Kenpachi defeated Unohana, I mean he scratched her chest whilst she wasn't even released by that logic first blood spilt is a defeat and the series would have turned out insanely different. Also I'm not sure if I have a different translation to you guys but on one of the last pages she says 'So you can finally surpass me' implying that he has never actually been stronger than her, she just always knew he could be.

Either way Urahara wins the most powerful Shinigami argument in my oppinion, I mean with his Bankai I'm not sure even Aizen uber-level would be a match for him.

I really wish Kubo would give us more of a character history of Kenpachi.

I mean, HOW was he so powerful as a kid? Could we get some information on Kenpachi's origins please? Where did he come from? Who exactly is he? You can't just say he was stronger than Unohana as a child and have that be it. It makes no sense and to be honest it's a bit irritating.
