You can see Hashirama's wood demon catching the kyuubi's TBB and using it like a rasengan.

Seriously guys, when i first saw it i was like ...... ok thats a rasengan, maybe there was a RECORD about hashi's encounter and minato studied it ...... OR maybe it was a coincidence

i made a thread a while back asking if anybody had any theories on how minato had observed the bijuu dama to think of the rasengan considering the only two bijuu we know minato to have faced were the 8-tails and 9-tails but considering he died during his fight with the 9-tails and when he fought b he didnt use the bijuu dama and didnt even notice this til you pointed it out ill add to your green bar since we are no longer allowed to say the r-word for that and it could explain how minato knew about the tbb if infact there were records kept of hashis fight with madara but then again if thats the case why have we never seen or heard of it?

Perhaps Naruto in Bijuu mode will do that when Kurama's chakra body thing that he does will probably make a rasengan/tbb in its hand. Of course, when his Yin chakra comes back

well minato could have had other encounters with OTHER jinchuriki's that we never heard of, so that could be the source. but i don't know why kishi would pull of something like that (the wood demon using the TBB the way he did) like i said, its just a crazy idea and of course i could be wrong .....

that was not the first rasengan, i think kishi got run out of battle ideas, drawings and he just made a rasengan look alike style which he didnt think before in the first place
