We never knew who his parents were or what his clan's name is, I sense he might be a Senju.

Same for Kabuto, he also has insane regeneration and unknown parents.

this pretty much sums it up.

To further illustrate this point, look @ what Tobirama just said about Maru.... "So much of my brother's DNA has been added to his (Maru's) body"

Also, think back to when maru found the white snake skin and then the 3rd explained what that snake meant. That is what Maru started basing his life off of. Regeneration, not dying, research etc. All spurred by the loss of his parents ~_~
