How do you deal with loosing someone?

Sadly a girl at my in my year at school passed away today; it was an asthma attack.
It's horrible that she died, I'm not gonna pretend that I knew her personally, I had nothing against her, I just didn't know her too well.

Though, many people were very affected by her passing, especially a friend of mine. In all my years of knowing one of my best friends at school I have never seen him cry, until today, her death upset him a lot.

How would you get over the loss of someone close to you?

I honestly believe I am emotionally stunted. My only reaction to anything like that is anger. Or I just don't feel anything. I believe in Heaven so I simply hope that person went there.

Re: How do you deal with loosing someone?

A classmate of mine died in the last year of elementary school. I didnt cry. I lost my piano teacher and 3 grandparents as well. I cried only at the funeral of my grandpa. once when I was in hospital for a longer time, several people died while I was there, even somebody in the bed next to mine...So I've grown to accept death.

Time, I guess. If I lost someone important to me, what can I really do? Eventually, you'll come to terms with what happened, and move on in your life.

You don't ever "get over it", and certainly not anytime close to the incident. You just learn to live with the loss, everything else is kind words and lies.

Time is the true healer. It's very important to allow yourself to mourn though. If you don't, it can be very unhealthy. Best thing for your friend to do is first mourn, then keep going on with daily life. Don't forget her, but don't let her death consume him either. In time the pain will fade, but the memory will remain. Have him think of the good times and maybe even talk to a counselor or someone who could help him with dealing with her death.

Time. Time's honestly the only thing that can help you get over the death of someone. The amount of time depends, but no matter the situation, time's honestly the only thing that can help you (That's my opinion at least)

Im working in a hospital im surrounded by death
First it was very hard to see death people and actually see people die who you love or like as friends but believe me the time lets you forget everything you will always remember their faces but with time all passes i know it sounds cruel but there is no way to deal with death
The time takes every anger and sorrow with you

Re: How do you deal with loosing someone?

Drinking usually. It's not the best way to deal with things I know, but it helps full the pain a bit. My friends and I had a close friend die a while ago. We all got hammered, cried for a while, talked for a while, passed out, and did the same things for about a week or so. Yeah, it got pretty bad. So don't do that.

Edit: There's no shame in crying, especially for a lost friend.

Recently a guy I worked with, a friend committed suicide. I was shocked to my core hearing about it. However, knowing the guy like I did, I knew he would want everyone to move on and not halt our lives forever.

When I was about 4, I had a dream about having sex with ravioli (my favorite food), and I was pleased...

That was the death of my sanity, may it rest in peace.

But honestly, death happens, try not to get too worked up over the death of someone you have no relationship with, unless you plan on sympathizing with her family and friends.

Stressing over her death won't benefit you, or her family.

Not for me. My old friends mean nothing to me compared to my parents. That's why I asked.

The best thing is to accept that it's happening and remember the good times with the person that you've llost because that's something no one can away from you the memories you had with that person hope this helps your friend!

Re: How do you deal with loosing someone?

Losing a peer in your social setting is never usually an easy thing to cope with. It's perfectly okay to still feel sad even though you didn't know her. What you're feeling is probably associated with shock mostly, that someone so young lost their lives before they could even finish filling the pages of their story. You sound young yourself and therefore death probably isn't something you're too familiar with. Don't bottle up your emotions. Be strong for yourself and for all those around you who are being affected by the loss of your class mate. By being supportive of your friends, for you might just make some new friends or grow even closer to the ones that you already have.

It's already taking a toll and the school and the girls family. Just make sure that everyone stays level headed and as long as it's not out of pocket try to make sure no one is being selfish about losing this friend. Sadly she is gone, and the mourning process is already in progress. Slowly try to get your friends and peers to begin celebrating this girls life instead. Everyone will heal faster if they work together. During the time of mourning it's always best to stick together and avoid doing reckless things.

yeah drinking does help... but it can be fataly

say like your like me, been drinking away my pain for years.

i know my limit, but when im really feeling the pain of shit.

i drink until i pass out.

amy winehouse is a perfect example of me, in many ways we were too similar... [ except the crack, coke, being a female etc.]
    I won't have a clue?How small is your brain?!!

Crow clearly didn't read the entire thread, so his post had diminutive relevance to the topic.

The op said "He didn't know her personally", which means it was unnecessary for crow to even mention alcohol. There're alternatives to dealing with death, so only a depressive, mentally weak ,simpleton would recommend intoxication.
