The screenshot of Susanoo looks like a bad flash animation made on newgrounds and the one from 2009 looks like it was made by a professional animation studio. Studio Pierrot wtf? Bleach and OP never has bad animation as blatant as this even with filler.

It's not that animation has gotten worse, it's just that viz probably can't afford to provide good looking art work for all the famous/hyped up fights. During the beginning of this sequence when Naruto and Itachi clashed that was pretty good looking, but it doesn't usually tend to stay looking good.

Another prime example is the Naruto vs Pein fights. It starts out all epic when Naruto poofs onto the battle field, then animation gets crappy an episode or two later, and then gets absolutely friggin beautifully artistic once he goes 6 tails and then every episode there after until Pein's demise is done in a different style.

How? The susanoo from 2013's arm looks like twisted bacon and the shield looks a 5th grader scribbled a bunch of lines, the colors are duller, the lineart is sloppier and less defined. The susanoo in 2009 has much better defined lines and shape, the arm looks anatomically smoother, and much better coloring.

They're the exact same picture. You wanna know what's different? The angle, that's what different. The "spiritual flames" on the Susano'o, Totsuka Blade, and Yata Mirror aren't supposed to be perfect. In animation, the "flames" (or whatever they are) are moving so the viewer can barely tell.

I'm an artist who is heavy on details but I am really having trouble seeing any drastic change. Any better pics you can find? I'm sure you have a point, as a friend stated it, too. I just don't think this pic is justifying it.

It has nothing to do with angle, people should be able to see a better level of detail in the 2009 art. The lines and colors are much more vibrant and and the overall structure and lines are more well defined. Even the transparent ethereal effect looks better.
