Why is ichigo so ugly?

I am not judging his character on looks, I think he is awesome but I was just wondering why he is drawn differently.

Look, Ichigo wears black shinigami clothes (both normal and Bankai) so whenever he pulls out that white mask, his opponents can't help but aim at it.
Think about it, he's taken more than his fair share of Cero's to the general head region.
