in my opinion it's not a lie....madara had no reason to lie to himself...moreover more things could be explained...why itachi put some of his power inside naruto??i strongly believe the naruto,who is also a descendant of the uzumaki clan ,will also activate rinnegan and hopefully kick madara's ass....and for those who ask why he didn't use it if it was originally his the answer is simple...the uzumaki's has the power of rinnegan but it can only be activated by someone who owns sharigan...

Im gonna have to sya it was the truth & agree with Honord Sage on this one. I believe he controlled the events around Nagato to activate his eyes etc.
