The Prize Doesn’t Always Go To The Most Deserving
this was somehow related to my English lesson about Adolf Hitler. Oskar Schindler & the Nazi party
Irena Sendler 1910-2008
A 98 year-old German woman named Irena Sendler recently died. During WWII, Irena worked in the Warsaw Ghetto as a plumbing/sewer specialist. Irena smuggled Jewish children out; infants in the bottom of the tool box she carried and older children in a burlap sack she carried in the back of her truck. She also had a dog in the back that she trained to bark when the Nazi soldiers let her in and out of the ghetto. The soldiers wanted nothing to do with the dog, and the barking covered the kids’ and infants’ noises. Irena managed to smuggle out and save 2500 children. She eventually was caught, and the Nazis broke both her legs, arms and beat her severely. Irena kept a record of the names of all the kids she smuggled out and kept them in a glass jar buried under a tree in her backyard. After the war, she tried to locate any parents that may have survived and reunited some of the families. Most had been killed. She helped those children get placement into foster family homes or adopted.
Last year Irena was up for the Nobel Peace Prize. She was not selected. Al Gore won - for a slide show on Global Warming.

Al Gore has done more than just a "slide show". He is one of the front runners in bringing attention to the issue. When one says global warming, Al is usually the face of the issue.
Now what is BS is that Obama won the peace prize! x__X

The story about Irena Sendler, is both touching and inspiring. She was truly a great person.
However I believe that you have your facts a bit off about the Nobel Prize issue. Al Gore didn't "win" the Nobel Prize, he was named and accepted the actual prize on behalf of the IPCC and his being named as their representative.
Either way the work that Irena did was fantastic, heartfelt, valorous, and right, although the basis for the prize is partly political.
What should have happened, imo is the Nobel committee should have issued on the different backgrounds, peacemaker, and scientific progress. That would have been better as a whole.

Re: The Prize Doesn’t Always Go To The Most Deserving
Awesome, see kids, here we have an example of how ideas collide in forums, and i have to say..it really is magnificent.
I agree,it ain`t fair, but global warming exists, and i am starting to feel it here in Greece.
Although Global Warming exists,i am kinda sad they gave a nobel to Al,he is so young and dumb and full of trashy ambitions to be known to the world.

Re: The Prize Doesn’t Always Go To The Most Deserving
She should have definitely won it over Gore.
Al Gore has done a lot when it comes to Global Warming but that doesn't compare to what this woman did. Gore gets TONS of money to do what he does, and hes just spreading the word while scientists do the work. This woman saved the lives of 2500 people with her bare hands and the only reward she probably thought she would get was death at the hands of the Nazis. Gore got rich for what he did, what did Irena get? Broken legs, arms and a beating.
It all comes down to politics being politics.
