Self confidence is one of the hottest things a girl can have. When a girl is timid or meek it reflects and people can sense it. however, when they are confident, they glow, and any superficials flaws a girl has will dissapear when they get their swagger going.

Back to you: don't pay any attention to the doctor's comments. Sometimes people can mis-speak and say things that come out wrong. In college I had to deal with a lot of people who were really smart, but couldn't communicate propperly with normal people. They would say things that would seem normal to them, but was socially rude. Sometimes people are just like that.

I agree with you. but just like there are people who are really smart that don't communicate well there are people or take everything to heart or to seriously.

Anyways, in the topic we're talking about, I think both genders can be the same. Meaning, it depends on the personality, not gender.
There are some guys who can take to heart the light things other people say carelessly. Just as some girls. Usually those who don't have as much confidence as others.
So the key is to be confident, and only take heart to the relevant things people say / really mean.
I just ignored the whole 'fat' part about this thread, but you get my point, both genders can care about what other people say about them (including appearances).
