    [Approved] Sharingan Usage and Abilities

    History of the Uchiha Clan

The Uchiha clan (うちは一族, Uchiha Ichizoku) was one of the four noble clans of Konohagakure, and was also reputed to be the village's most powerful clan, producing shinobi that were exceptionally talented and battle-oriented, and in possession of the renowned Sharingan. The Uchiha clan descended from Indra, the elder of the two sons of the Sage of the Six Paths. Indra inherited the Sage's "eyes", powerful chakra and spiritual energies. When it came time for the Sage to choose a successor, he questioned the two on what course of action they would follow to bring order to the world. Indra believed that power was the way to bring peace, while Asura, the younger son, believed love was the way. The Sage favoured Asura's ideal, and therefore designated him as his successor, causing Indra to be filled with jealousy and hatred. From this hate came what Tobi calls the Curse of Hatred (憎しみの呪い, Nikushimi no Noroi). From Asura descended the Senju clan who would be the eternal rivals of the Uchiha. The Uchiha were famous for their powerful chakra, exceptionally strong techniques, and natural aptitude for anything combat-related. The clan possessed an innate affinity for Fire Release nature transformation, with even the youngest of members able to use it from just observation.

    Abilities of the Sharingan

The Sharingan (写輪眼; Literally meaning "Copy Wheel Eye") is a dōjutsu kekkei genkai, which appears in some members of the Uchiha clan. While its powers were first seen in Kaguya Ōtsutsuki, its true form first manifested in Indra, the earliest ancestor of the Uchiha clan, and later became regarded as one of the Three Great Dōjutsu along with the Byakugan and the Rinnegan. The Sharingan is also called "Heaven's Eye" (天眼, Tengan), because of the many abilities it grants the user. Tobirama Senju defines it as the "eye that reflects the heart" (心を写す瞳, Kokoro o utsusu hitomi).

The Sharingan's abilities consist of two parts: the "Eye of Insight" (Dōsatsugan) and the "Eye of Hypnotism" (Saimingan). The first of the Sharingan's powers is being able to see chakra flow. The Sharingan itself gives color to chakra, allowing the wielder to differentiate them. They are also able to tell if a person is under a genjutsu because the person's chakra flow would be irregular.

The Sharingan's second-most prominent ability grants the user an incredible clarity of perception, allowing them to easily recognize genjutsu and different forms of chakra, though not to the same extent as the Byakugan. This also allows the user to pick up on subtle details, enabling them to read lip movements or mimic something like pencil movements. As the Sharingan evolves, gaining more tomoe, this ability extends to being able to track fast-moving objects before finally giving some amount of predictive capabilities to the user, allowing them to see the image of an attacker's next move from the slightest muscle tension in their body and counter-attack or dodge without any wasted movement. However, even though the user may be able to see an attack or know it is coming, their body may not always have time to react.

The Sharingan's third and most well-known ability is that it grants the user the ability to copy almost any technique that he or she witnesses, apart from other kekkei genkai techniques. The user can memorize ninjutsu, genjutsu, and taijutsu with near-perfect accuracy, allowing the user to use the techniques as their own, or even modify them to create their own new techniques, much like Sasuke Uchiha's Lion Combo. In order to reproduce a copied technique, however, one must have the necessary skill or ability to perform them. In addition to physical skill and kekkei genkai techniques, the Sharingan cannot reproduce techniques dependent on other factors, such as summons that the user has not signed a contract with, or KGs that the user does not have.

The Sharingan's final commonly-used ability is capable of inducing a unique brand of hypnosis that involves suggesting actions and thoughts to the opponent through genjutsu cast by simple eye contact between both parties. The hypnotic ability coupled with the other aspects of the Sharingan can make the user appear as if they can "see the future". First, the user must perfectly mimic every move their opponent makes and possibly their thoughts and words through careful observation. Then, they suggest an action to the opponent such as hand seals for a technique that the opponent and Sharingan user already know and copy that. With these things done, the user can complete the action even before the opponent does, possibly using the Sharingan's genjutsu to confuse or delay them. As with other genjutsu, genjutsu cast by the Sharingan are capable of putting an opponent to sleep, inducing paralysis, replaying memories to someone else via genjutsu, or creating various illusions to deceive someone or torture the person. The potency of the Sharingan's illusion is dependent on the user's knowledge and skill with implementing genjutsu. Two Sharingan users are also able to free each other from other forms of genjutsu by first using genjutsu on each other, allowing them to enter their comrades mind and free each other from the genjutsu.

Upon reaching the Third Tomoe, the user is capable of awakening his Mangekyo Sharingan, though this is very rare due to the conditions required. The Mangekyō Sharingan is awakened by a Sharingan user when they suffer from trauma after witnessing the death of someone close to them. It is distinguished from a normal Sharingan by its appearance, which changes the form of the tomoe seal. Unlike the Sharingan, the appearance of the Mangekyō Sharingan differs from user to user with all known wielders of the dōjutsu having eyes that resemble variations of pinwheels.

The Mangekyō Sharingan gives the user's eyes enhanced might to the standard Sharingan's generic abilities and access to powerful techniques. Using the Mangekyō Sharingan puts strain on the user's eyes and erodes their vision, eventually causing blindness. This can be prevented by transplanting another pair of Mangekyō Sharingan from a close relative, such as a sibling. The newly acquired Mangekyō Sharingan looks like a merger of both eyes and is dubbed the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan (永遠の万華鏡写輪眼, Eien no Mangekyō Sharingan)

    Re: Sharingan Usage and Abilities

    1 - 3 Tomoe Sharingan

The moment that an Uchiha comes to know a powerful emotion towards someone, such as love and friendship, a stressful or emotional condition brought out from losing that precious person causes the brain to release a special form of chakra that affects the optic nerves while transforming the eyes into Sharingan. After its initial activation, the Sharingan may be used freely, although it is possible for an Uchiha to lose memory of such an event and not reactivate it until through willpower years later. It's first stage, known as the 1 tomoe Sharingan, grants the holder the basic abilities of the Sharingan; the ability to
see chakra and differentiate between different chakra from different people as well as see an opponent's chakra flow. They are gifted with a great clarity of perception, which allows them to the look through some Genjutsu and see the different forms of chakra, This stage of the Sharingan also allows the user the small ability of tracking motions moving slightly faster, up to 1.5 times his own speed actually. This coupled with the abilityto see through low rank genjutsu ( D rank visual illusions ) is what makes the 1 Tomoe Sharingan useful in it's own right. The wielder of the Sharingan, through continued use and training, changes its form further, which involves the eye maturing fully until it has three tomoe. As the Sharingan develops, the user gains heightened abilities through the heightened ocular sense. This first shows with the Two Tomoe Sharingan.

Upon development, the Sharingan develops a second tomoe in it, allowing the user greater prowess with it. The users of it show the ability to now anticipate and analyze faster movement, as well as mimic minor movements made by an opponent. The user can now track higher speeds and enemies that are moving at higher speeds ( twice as fast ) and, by reading the handseals, can predict to some extent the use of Ninjutsu techniques (but will always obey and abide by the time frame rule as he can never start performing a counter/move before the opponent has started his, meaning that there will always be a logical sequence of moves that will obey the time frame). The user is now able to pierce through visual C rank genjutsu and below .

Upon gaining what is called a fully matured Sharingan, the Three Tomoe Sharingan allows the user to perceive motions, copy the motions perceived, and predict motions. An example of this is during the fight between Sasuke and Naruto at the Valley of the End. Sasuke could perceive Naruto's motions, copy them, and than predict what Naruto was going to do next. Essentially, to Sasuke through use of his Sharingan, it looked like Naruto was going in slow motion. When active the user now has the ability to keep up with extremely high speeds and mimic basic taijutsu exactly. With this the user can now copy handseals done by an opponent (using the adequate Copy Technique), and use jutsus as they do as long as he's able to perform them (having the adequate chakra nature, adequate knowledge of the field of expertise being copied, etc). The user must however be able to mimic the techniques, for if they are not physically able to preform the copied techniques they cannot do them. The user can now pierce through visual B rank genjutsu and below. Unlike the previous two sharingan stages this level has the ability to hypnotize a target. If however the target is too strong the hypnotizing with be ineffective. This can only be done on targets one rank below the user and through eye contact. The user will need to spend a move to activate it and will be able to keep it active until the end of the match as long as he has chakra and stamina for it. However, after some time, he'll be able to gain full mastery over the KG and gain the ability to activate it passively wiithout spending a move. He'll need to be Sanin Rank and have gained 3T for one month.

    Sharingan Genjutsu

Sharingan Genjutsus are a powerful class of illusions of their own. A large portion of these require direct eye contact, increasing the speed and effectiveness of casting it unexpectedly. But all of them do not require eye contact, though most do. The mediums for genjutsu differ greatly, a large portion of them being visually triggered, such as looking at the user or a specific object. Some others are triggered through hearing a sound ( Namely Sound Genjutsu ), and even others are triggered through sense of Smell, Touch, and even Smell. With most Sharingan Genjutsus, this medium is Visual, requiring the user to be able to cast a genjutsu through eye contact alone, however not all do this. A specific one that doesn't require eye contact would be (Doujutsu: Shiranui) - Eye Technique: Phosphorescent light. This one is triggered by having a line of vision with the target, being able to physically see him.

Sharingan is able to pierce through Visual Genjutsus as well as reverse other genjutsus cast upon the user. Starting with the first, Visual Genjutsus, are genjutsus that take on a Visual trait primarily. This means that Genjutsus that are
primarily used to alter your sense of sight and what you are able to Visually interpret are considered Visual Genjutsus. Sharingans are able to break through this visual illusion with ease, due to their natural "piercing" abilities, allowing the user to see through it by simply focusing your vision once you have reasoned it is an illusion and piercing through it with ease, an instinctive and relatively quick process, taking next to no time in the timeframe and being passively achieved. However, this is only viable for Visual Genjutsus. As for other Genjutsus that plague the mind, should you reason it to be a Genjutsu, you are able to reverse the genjutsu itself as well, depending the maturity of your Sharingan.

    Sharingan Hypnosis and it's Limitations

To discuss what Hyposis with the Sharingan means, we first have to understand what Hypnosis itself is. A basic definition of this is "the induction of a state of consciousness in which a person apparently loses the power of voluntary action and is highly responsive to suggestion or direction." To put in laymen's terms, it means to place one in a state of consciousness where they are more susceptible to suggestions. This has been popularized by a string of magicians and more. Now,having already established that Hypnosis is used to make one more likely to respond to suggestions, we look at what this means when combined with the Ocular powers of the Sharingan.

With the Sharingan, by making eye contact, you can distort your opponent's will only slightly. For this to happen, it has to be sustained and eye contact maintained. You can suggest words and feelings into the mind of your target which, coupled with your doujutsu accuracy can enable you to produce the illusion that you can read his mind. These are largely minor things but when used at the right times, they become very useful. The effort and focus needed makes this unsuitable for most fights but Kakashi showed that you can for example, alter the opponents perception of time enough so that you seem to be doing the handseals for a technique at the same time he does and thus seeming to read his mind.

What Exactly are the limitations of it? There has been some misconceptions about it over time so I'll try to clarify them all:

First and foremost, it's not Genjutsu, nor will it work on anyone of the same rank as you or higher and it needs both focus and effort as well as eye contact. In essence, you can, at best, lock yourself with your opponent. And at its weakest, you can create mental "whispers" of sorts that would induce fear, anxiety, etc but are mostly cosmetic in terms of our RP rather than useful for some decisive effect. The locking aspect is excellent for taijutsu but also when your opponent does a technique you already know. In this case, you can perform it at virtually the same time by locking yourself with him and making his time perception slightly altered so that you seem to be performing the hand seals and actions for the technique, both at the same time.

You cannot alter big things nor make your opponent harm himself or even control his will. You can hint and play with your opponents mind but never to a level that you can make him do something that he wouldn't otherwise do of his own free will. This is one of the largest misconceptions related to the Sharingan and it's easy to see how, given the above description of Hypnosis. However, it should be noted again that this makes people more likely to listen to you, and not fully control one. This is the main difference between Sharingan Genjutsu and Sharingan Hypnosis. One can control others through specific attacks, the other can implant ideas and suggestions into one's mind. How can one control a foe or opponent? Through the Sharingan Genjutsus; Itachi cast Tsukiyomi and "controlled" Kabuto and manipulated his mind for info. Sasuke, Madara and others have done it through Sharingan Genjutsu. When it comes to manipulating the will of something, you need Sharingan Genjutsu and you can only achieve it while you focus on it. Its not a trigger type of effect like normal Gen.

Another thing to note is that with freeform hypnosis, or the basic freeform sharingan ability, you cannot manipulate something like memories. Not even with the fully fledged Sharingan Genjutsu techniques can one do that. Altering Memories is a ninjutsu. It requires you to alter the targets brain physically. It requires a biological change to his mind that will appear in his spirit. With Sharingan you can override their mind but through techniques and only while they are sustained. The moment they end, the target resumes his normal mental processes.

The last point to mention relates to various animals of the RP. In the RP, there are certain times where animals and even Bijuu are able to be controlled by the user. Animals summonings require the Basic Sharingan Genjutsu technique to do this; it's not something that can be done via freeform or without cost. However, only Madara can control a Bijuu and without a jutsu as well, using an advanced form of Sharingan Hypnosis to achieve this.
