Shikamaru is a very skilled ninja with an intellect in IQ of over 200. Asuma noted that this is beyond genius and probably the smartest ninja in the Konohagure. It can also be said that Shikamaru is very skillful at dodging attacks, as seen in his unfinished but nevertheless "won" battle against Temari. This is most prominently seen in Part II when he evades all three of Tayuya's Doki Demons and the Akatsuki member Kakuzu. Shikamaru displays his talents only later in the second part of the Chunin exams. His primary supporting move is the Shadow Possession Technique. After the time skip that leads into part 2, Shikamaru also learns the Shadow Sewing Technique and many other shadow related jutsu as well as the ability to simultaneously use them in astonishing coordination, and even learning to use Asuma's Trench Knives and seemingly increases his intellect, now even being able to defeat a member of Akatsuki single handedly.It might be noted that in each of his previous battles, Shikamaru makes use of strategy & planning instead of outright battle.This enables him to defeat many ninja who , according to him, "Cannot use their head."

In my opinion he is probably the best ninja of the 4 groups besides Neji and Naruto

totally agree with you shikamru is super smart and could easily become hokage one day if he trained more and desired it would be cool to see he in the running for the hokage poison with like naruto and neji having a big as battle to decide who will be hokage but naruto will carve up but i think shikamaru will become one of narutos closes advisers because he is so fukin smart

What is he took the rare chakra reacting metals, and made it into wire, and strung it between trees or cliffs like he did to kill that immortal guy.
(Remember Sasuke using wires in his battle with Naruto, and the fire chakra traveled along its path)..
If the enermy's shadow either 1. Hits the shadow of the wire, or 2. The wire itself... the enemy would be paralyzed.
(As a kid, didn't you ever play the game of not walking on shadows on the ground?)
In battle this would drastically cut down the amount of space the enemy has to maneuver with...

He hasn't done that yet... He wouldn't have to use paper bombs and twine if he used this idea.

Shikamaru defeating Hidan....That was nice display of intelligence....But he managed to do that bcoz hidan was sick and dumba**...Shika couldnt have done that against Kakuzu/Itachi/Pain who seemed to have better intellect than hidan...

But still it can not be denied that he is the best ninja Konoha has...

Shikamaru is one of the brilliants Konoha has besides Kakashi.
I admire Kakashi the most as brilliant Ninja but Shikamaru even manages to
amaze Kakashi.

I just can't get one thing why isn't Shikamaru Jounin yet? He has all the abilities to become a jounin..

And like i said in another topic, I don't see him being a hokage. Bedides it's probably to troublesome for him. A bit overrated for the postion if you ask me.

i think his bloodline is more limiting than helpfull. he has a huge iq and is a strategist beyond comparision, but his fighting-abilities are just ordinary, he isnt fast and hasnt any really strong jutsus, neither does he have the ambition to get really strong.

single handedly? sort of... had the rest of the ninja's not been there... he would have failed cos akatsuki mainly work as pairs.
if he'd not all the time to plan and was only against hidan... dunno what he'd have done in a sudden fight... probably lost. don't get me wrong. i really like shikamaru, but he's still quite limited and is best working in a team rather than individual.
