In your opinion, what makes fma so special?

Aware that fma is one of the most popular, liked anime in this modern times, I decided to give the manga a try, but I stoped reading it inmediatley.. it just wasnt for me.. So now I decided to watch the anime, as it is so liked, I really want to like it to, but sometimes I see myself forced on enjoying the anime.. Dont get me wrong, it has his moments, but also moments that I am thinking to myslef.. Is this anime really for me..? So what do you like about fma, what makes it so special? Right now im on episode 27 of the original fma, not brotherhood..

yeah, well, don´t watch "original" one, just watch brotherhood, it is far more better, i don´t know what´s so special about it, but it is my most fav anime of them ALL.

well brotherhood is just better explained plus it has more characters like ling yao, 2 diferent greeds ...ect well anyways FMA is a very epic anime i say watch both first the original, so you can understand good the 2nd part wich is brotherhood

I'm not sure why I like it so much really to be honest. But it's my favorite anime. Including the original one. x.x Brotherhood is much better then the original but I still would watch the original sometime.

o u see for me i like it a lil really the only reason i watch it is because im waiting for cowboy beebop and ghost in the shell to come on i have to stay up late to watch the new bleach episodes cause i get off work as soon as it goes off and by the time i get home durarara or w/e it is goes off used to be kakaishi by the way i hate durara however its spelled i saw the first episode it was like death is a headless guy on a bike pullin a scythe out of his neck with black smoke coming out

i didnt like the anime very much, to much filler.
in my eyes the way the characters develop is great. the further it gets, the better gets the manga.

FMA is a good anime series IMO. Reason why is because of the story line and the cool things they can do with alchemey. The original wasn't my favorite because the ending kinda didn't make sense to me, but that what i think. Brotherhood is better because it sticks to the manga like what Migualon said, but also because you get to see more than just one point of view. You get to see how the seven deadly sins came about, the adventures Ed and Al have while in the series and you get to make a connection and, IMO, i cried at the end because that was my favorite anime/manga

FMA was the first anime i watched, and i like the shows full of action and crazy sh*t, so naturally i think that FMA, Bleach, Naruto, One Piece, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, are amazing. Its just because its a good plot, good action, and its fun to watch

I might be able to provide a decent take on FMA.

I saw bits and pieces of it on Adult Swim way back but never too much. Once I got bored of waiting for Naruto/ Bleach every week, I looked for a short manga to read that I wouldn't get bogged down with (considering one piece had 600+ chapters). So I chose FMA, having only like 112 chapters. I read it, and damn was it good. I'd have to say that in regard to pure emotion/ intensity, FMA is much more intense than Naruto ever was.

Bottom line? READ THE MANGA. I know for a fact nowadays that watching anime subbed over dubbed is the way to go (with the exception of DBZ prlly). But since I was so used to Edward's voice being that of captain hitsugya, I couldn't get used to subbed. BUT YOU DON"T NEED ANIME. Some things about mangas can never be properly transferred to anime. There were parts in the manga that work perfectly because you simply don't have to deal with a median like a voice actor. Certain parts of this manga just get to you without needing it in color or with voice actors. Get what I mean? It's just so good that its better left as a manga. Seriously, just read the manga, you'd be glad you did.

I had the same feeling with the original series, but I'm now watching FMA Brotherhood and it's ALOT better and I enjoy watching it alot more, so don't watch the original, watch Brotherhood, the battles are also alot better in it.

I actually found this un-special. I liked it, but not that sort of like-worship. The reason why this is considered special by many fans is because (especially Americans):

- the dub wasn't raped
- the theme is perfect for teenagers
- it ended at the best time
- the characters look normal
- the shipping
- the anime pace (Brotherhood) wasn't murdered
- overall, it felt mature (since most anime-watching teenagers like "mature" anime)

Yeah, that's about it.

the story. Although it is not as long as naruto/bleach/op/etc, the story is so thought out, it deserves to be one of the best.

It also is not generic.. it has a mix of everything. drama, joy, action, fighting, etc.

Stop watching the orginal FMA, and start watching FMA:Brotherhood. It has a way better storyline. But since you didnt like the manga, Brotherhood is based on the manga. So its your choice.
