An excellent point! How would Danzo know who the leader is? Up until just recently, not even Akatsuki knew who their true leader is. Of course, Danzo is wrong to say that Pein is the leader. Madara is the one guiding everything from behind the scenes. Still, this hints at some relationship between Akatsuki (or at least Pein) and Danzo. I wonder though, who sought out who?

I think Jiraiya's warning to Tsunade about Danzo is very significant. Perhaps he knew something we don't? Maybe he saw a connection somewhere. I'm not sure.

As for Danzo being sneaky, well, he is ninja after all. If you look carefully, the masked ANBU member exists the room with the rest of the group. So he wasn't Danzo. But he may have signaled the all clear. One cannot be too sure!
