So here is a couple things that I noticed
Notice...
1. That the creature behind Pain lets go of one of the person's tongues, because he was passing judgement. Pain let that person who told the truth LIVE. WTF??? haha.
Notice...
2. Konohamaru is watching this... but the Creature IS NOT in the frame... THIS means that the creature can only be seen by the person casting the jutsu and the people under its influence... just like the "death god" jutsu that sealed the 9-Tails... OR it could be a genjutsu of some sort...
Also... remember that Ebisu was Konohamaru's sensei, and that he was always trying to escape from him. Considering that Naruto couldn't even hide from Ebisu, Konohamaru had to have gotten pretty good at running and escaping from the grasps of Ebisu.
I think Konohamaru's mission was to spy on Pein and to gather information. Because hes a genin, and thats what he is good at. Hiding and escaping

Yet another point on why I think konohamaru will be able to stand a chance against pain, the soul stealing ability only works if the victim is lieing.

I don't think the creature killed him because he was lying, he was killed by Pein because the creature told him that the guy was lying. Pein chose to kill him, but not kill the other person. Originally Posted by Neutrino00

It's a nice topic and thank you, but you know. Genins shouldn't go on S-rank missions. SPying on the ninja with has the strongest eyes technique who killed the Strongest Sannin, who fought the Lizard guy who defeated the 3 sannin alltogether who is the leader of the world most dangarous criminal coproration is a S-rank mission and could not be given to a Genin like him.
PLus he said " what's that, seems like i need to get out of here" means he was just not in the right place.
