It's natural, the beginning of the anime isn't as exciting as the rest of the series, but fear not! It will get much more interesting!

I liked the Kuro arc, which is where you are now, Usopp joining and stuff, but I was slow there (mainly because I was more focused on advancing Death Note by that time, and I'm still very far behind there!) and it was more of in standby... the arc that followed was where the action and the badass-ness of the anime started, just so damn epic! And the arc that followed, as I said, was what really got to me, and I became addicted.
Also, there's a mini-arc called Millenium Dragon arc (or something like that) before entering the Grand Line which is filler. They are just 5 or so episodes, and you may skip them without a problem (although you would miss a very funny scene in which Nami feeds Zoro ) Just letting you know, if you want the number of episodes of those I can tell you. I skipped fillers and watched them all after catching up with the anime and manga. I needed more!
