Two Worlds; Chapter 4: Why is everything upside down?!
Two Worlds; Chapter 4: Why is everything upside down?!
“You will soon find out that there are many mysteries in Nirvana. Brace yourself; we are now entering the Inverted City.” The two rode through something that seemed like to Johnny, a giant thin wall of water; a dimension that separated two worlds. As soon as Johnny entered into the gateway, Angel dismounted the bike while Johnny automatically reverted back to the robotic being he had become. “Ahhhh!” Jonny shrieked, laying down in the middle of the streets, flat on the ground; gripping it with his dear life. “Why is everything upside down?!” He yelled at Angel. “Do me a favor and stand up.” Angel said looking down on Johnny, with cold piercing eyes, and hands on her waist. “Um..Su-sure.” Johnny said nervously, while looking up at Angel. Her scary attitude frightened Johnny into imagining that she was just as tall as the many buildings that encircled them.
In an attempt to get up, Johnny’s right palm bared down on the ground, as his elbow pointed up in the air. “What is this? I moved my left arm, but yet my right arm responded instead.” Johnny said shocked. “This is the Inverted City, almost everything is inverted here. You may have noticed that you unwilling changed back as soon as you entered into this world. While it’s true that you don’t have control over your own abilities, it wasn’t the reason for your change. In this place, you will learn how to control your abilities. Let me paint a picture of this world for you, it is one giant circle, this giant circle is separated into three squadrons; the Outer Circle, the Middle Circle, and the Inner circle. We’re currently in the Outer Circle. In the Outer Circle, rookies find it extremely difficult to maintain their power here. When they try to utilize them, it automatically has the inverse affect. In the Middle Circle, it’s the opposite; they uncontrollably fire off their powers. And finally, the Inner Circle has a very powerful inverse effect. Meaning, it’s a complete hell.
Here you will be taught the basic movements that are necessary before entering the Middle City. After all, it would be nearly impossible to get a grip on your abilities if you can’t even control such basic movements. It would be like a newborn trying to learn how to drive. However, once that baby grows and becomes adapted to the tasks of everyday life, driving becomes second nature. Let me further explain, only that which is not natural in the Inverted City becomes inversed. This means, the earth and sky are naturally upside down within the walls of the Inverted City. So no matter which circle you’re in, the sky and earth will always remain upside down. The same is to be said of your body movements, once it becomes natural for you to walk freely in the Outer City; it becomes the same in the other two cities as well. However, since you’re not gaining control of your powers here, they will go on a rampage as soon as you enter into the Middle City. And well, the Inner City…”Angel!” A voiced called from afar; interrupting her statement. Angel turned to see who it was, while Johnny struggled to get up. “Hey there, Thane!” Yelled Angel, as her soft voice rode the winds.
A 14 year old boy dressed in an all-black BDU ran toward them, his hands yearned for the sky while they oscillated throughout the atmosphere. Wrapped around his waist was a belt that supported an assortment of gear; two green eyes stared at Johnny and Angel through a pair of goggles. Golden threads interwoven together formed a basin on the light-skinned bonce that swayed from side to side as he ran toward the two.
As he stopped upon arrival, he bent down with his hands reposed on his knees, while vast gusts of air vented from the entrance of that door that Angel wished would stay closed more often than not. “I see we have another newbie.” Thane stated before straightening up, resting his hands on his hips, as his breath gradually returned. “I’m getting a little use to this.” Johnny stated, as he stood on both feet; doing his best to keep his balance. “So how much have you told him, Angel?” Thane asked. “I was just getting to the inner city, Thane.” Angel said in a rather rude tone. “Oh okay. Well you see, the inner..” Angel quickly interrupted. “I was explaining that, thank you very much. Your amazingly protracted little sermons should be saved for the SOC.” Angel said harshly. “Aw, come on. I just..”
“Guys!” Johnny yelled out. They both turned their attention toward Johnny. “So far, I haven’t seen anything normal, how come Thane here looks just like an average human?!” Angel stepped in front of Thane just as he was about to open up that dimension on his face that Angel knew would suck the vitality out of both her and Johnny. “What’s your name?” Angel asked. “It’s Johnny.” He said while looking alert, anxiously awaiting the answer to his question. “Johnny, as you can see, normal humans do exist within this world. It’s all do to the mighty inverse effect of the inner circle. Once humans enter into this Nirvana, it’s the job of us NWP, which stand for New World Police; to gather all the newbies. The unfortunate souls that we rarely miss, almost always go down the wrong path, and become criminals within Nirvana, harming innocent lives as they rampage our little heaven. There’s no doubt about it, they are the bad guys.”
“Anyway, the ones that we do gather are brought here. They go through the Inner Cities, or Inner Circles, doesn’t matter which you call them. Once they reach the Inner City, their will is put to the test. It’s simple; they can either choose to live as the protected, or the protectors. Those without enough will power aren’t strong enough to survive in Nirvana without protection.” Angel stopped as she noticed Thane had his fist clenched, with his nails digging into his skin. She closed her eyes and was about to let out an apology before Thane walked off a short distance from the two. He faced his back toward them, and crossed both arms.
A sigh of remorse escaped from Angel’s mouth before she continued on. “Johnny, your form is a manifestation of your willpower, as is mine. Your willpower determines the strength of your form. The Inner City has the power to turn you back into a human if you don’t have a strong enough willpower. In the first two cities, you learn how to control your powers, in the third, you decide if you want to keep them. So now Johnny, do you want to be a protector, or the protected?”
Johnny’s body suddenly became tense, depression and anger danced inside him, and he subconsciously balled his hands into fists. He wasn’t even sure he wanted to make a home of this place; such a question took him by surprise.
The view of Angel and the world surrounding them three suddenly turned into a rainy night. In an alley, there was screaming and pleadings of help. Three young teens was jumping a helpless little boy, while he laid on the ground folded; with his hands protecting his head. They picked him off the ground, while two held his arms from behind. A punch was delivered to the boy’s stomach; the pain caused him to stoop as the nuisance in his abdomen swam throughout the boy’s entire ocean of pain; caused by the ships that was currently plunging into it.
They finally let him go; he dropped to his knees, and then fell flat on his face. The three wolves left the sheep covered in blood, and fighting to stay conscious. “If only I was stronger, If only….I…I could protect myself” Were the words of Johnny on one of the many nights he suffered at the hands of his prey.
Johnny awoke from his flashbacks, and determination filled his entire soul. Angel glanced at Johnny with a look of curiosity.
“I want to be a protector.”
To be continued...
