I walked on the damp pavement, the smell of the rain still strong and young. It was a very strange day, it seemed like it was full of something yet I felt nothing unusual. Kirigakure was same as always, heavy mist piled up on the side of the rocky land, the same cold weather, with a slightest touch of rain in it. It was keeping my skin cold and wet giving me the odd feeling of loneliness. I was empty today, just like I felt once in the past… That unusual aura was consuming my soul, it was as if I was being finished from inside, but even after all those things I felt today was different that the entire life I have spent after that incident.
I was wearing the same formal clothing that I used to like, and the very formal armor up to my taste and choice. My face covered with a white cloth, and not just a cloth… It was his cloth. The one who is not around me anymore?
The necklace tied to my waist made the enchanting sound once again, as I jumped to the highest point located in the center of Kirigakure. I have asked myself countless times about my true identity and this place somewhat shows me a blink of that.
What am I?
I thought to myself, a person who has lost his identity is a mere wandering soul. I gazed on the small houses and shops from the top of the tower. Everyone was so busy in their life, they look happy and satisfied. But me? Disguised as an Anbu Head, or ninja, or a human. Who I really am, no one had the answer to this question.
It seemed like it was sealed in this cold years ago, now I have a place called home, a village, comrades, and a mere identity. Where have I lost myself? Where did I go wrong? The questions pounded my brain with such immense strength; I could hardly take this anymore.
Should I just end this today? Or is there still a meaning to it.
I climbed even higher, until I was at the very top using my chakra to keep myself balanced on the slippery dome. I spread my arms outwards, closed my eyes, the wind was very strong here. It was blowing my hairs back and the necklace making that same enchanting sound. There were the only two sounds that echoed in my head; the wind’s harshness and the necklace’s chimes. And when my vision got darker, I smelled just one scent, the same damp pavement. The scent of rain, it was stronger now. My arms spread, palms open, I invited death to take my soul and grant me freedom.
My Identity, ha… I whispered, now determine to not go back on what I have chosen; once I fall from this tower and embrace freedom, the death will consume me. It has been waiting for so long and now its time for it chose the right person. This is the only way I can earn freedom.
And then… I drained the chakra from my feet and let myself go. It was time for an angel to be free. My eyes still close, it turned bright white as my body tilted forward to fall. A smile stretched on my face.
So this is the end. I thought letting go even the slightest of energy left in my body and jumped, what was at the bottom of this tower was my end.
And then there was a jerk in my heart, an external force bringing everything back, the bright white light suddenly turned black, and I felt a greater threat than death. It was not just to me, but the people I have been protecting for so long. I was unsure how I knew that something was coming, but I knew it’s the thing that I have been waiting for this entire time. It was dark and strong. My eyes opened, chakra flourished through my body, creating a strong earth armor that tore the Ice Spikes with a single touch. It was not ending today, not anytime soon. After somewhat a safe landing I rushed towards where that force was coming from. The earth armor crumbled back to dust as I dashed towards the gate of Kirigakure. Someone was coming and he was not going to hold back, thirsty for power, a devil.
And there was I standing in the middle of the humongous gate of Kiri. I saw nothing, no one was waiting for me there, but the force was still there… disappointed I declared myself a coward and when I was about to turn away I saw a shadow immerging from behind of huge rocks. He was there, the one who will show me the answers to my questions. As he headed towards the gates his appearance became clearer. His blood red eyes burning with pain, his hairs were as long as mine but dark, he wore a red cape on his leather clothes with a symbol of Uchiha clan.
He stopped at a mid-range from me, knowing my intentions he set a grin on his face. The most disturbing thing was, he had the same pain in his eyes as mine. He had been through all that I have gone through. He has seen more of a world than I have and was full of sorrow. A true Devil stood before me with his high spirit; a battle between a Devil and an Angel was about to unfold. One who seeks power and the other who protects what is left of him.
The Wanderer and The Prisoner:
The stranger with a smirk steps forward, having faith in his abilities and an aim to gain more was determined that he will win. Where as on the other hand I knew the real outcome. He came for my village and my soul, as long as I have something to protect my power will always flourish and never be defeated. With a strong battle roar, similar to one I have seen in my past, somewhat exactly same to that which haunts me even today, the roar that carved my heart, and wounded my soul. It hurt just like before, when the stranger activated his majestic eyes to its max level and charged with a fire sword appearing in his hand. I bit my hand drawing out blood, a thing that I did not care about anymore, my blood. With a poof of smoke I summoned the angelic weapon, the first fang every to be created, bestowed on the humans by Angels, The Frozen Fang. I stretched my arm backwards, wielding wind chakra with the weapon tearing the earth as I head towards my opponent. Our swords clashed, having exactly the same strength, waves of aura burned my skin while pierced his.
And then we both noticed the sense of that battle; our clashing swords were conveying our feelings with one another. I saw through his mind while he read mine. His urge to avenge was greater than anything I have ever seen, he wanted to avenge his captivity of the past life when I wanted to free mine. We were very much alike. His eyes opened wide when he saw through my past, and he was thinking the same thing I was. Although we choose different paths to achieve our goals our destinations were same, and I had already given up while he was still struggling and burning.
He saw everything… He saw my secrets… My Brother… My Life.
With another clash of the sword, he knew of my forbidden life, a life that I shouldn’t be living. He knew too much about me with just a single clash. It was white and the light coming from our swords was strong, it was so strong that it took me back in the times. Memories… they never leave you.
I was born in the village hidden in the Mist, Kirigakure.
When the past flashed back it was as if I was explaining my story to the stranger, I felt uncomfortable but at the same time it felt like I had someone by my side now. I remember… Cloud ran towards me like usual and I up to him, and the usual brotherly fighting started. Our mother always tried to keep us calm and friendly while our father laughed sipping the cup of tea. He was one of the strongest ninja present in the Mist village and had been protecting it for 12 years, his brutal strength and the ability to wield water element exceeded far beyond any other ninja in the village. Both Cloud and me always looked up on him and even though Cloud was three years younger than me he was already following on his path. He became a Jounin at a very young age of 14 when I was only a Chunin. I was given his examples all the time was bothered by his attitude all the time, but the brotherly bond we shared could never be broken… That’s what I thought at that time.
We had completed countless superior missions with extreme expertise and never failed, and that is how we were given the title of Yuki Duo. And it was one of those days when we were assigned an A rank mission of escorting a princess of the country to her palace. The Mist was having some Intel issues at that time, and there was some unrest in the government, but the citizens knew nothing about it. We were one of those people that knew about the situation and when we were asked to take the mission we rejected it. But after our father insisted we had to go. After completing the mission we came back to the village, Cloud went straight to the father’s office while I took of for home. That night it was exceptionally dark and terrifying. I clearly remember every single detail, the mood was dark, and the ice below our feet was dull black. The life around was fading and it was really uncomfortable walking home alone. It was the night when I discovered that I was not like others. I sneaked in from the backyard, because I didn’t wanted to wake up my mother, and when I stepped on the wooden floor, I noticed that the door was already opened. I walked in and smelled something odd and without another thought I ran looking for my mother. I smashed her room’s door opened and was stunned by what I saw. Blood… My mother’s blood, she was lying on the floor, an ice lance pierced through her chest and blood covering the pink clothes and the wooden floor. Tear rolled down my cheeks as I saw her, I let out a scream… leaning quickly and getting hold of her. She had stopped breathing; I couldn’t hear a single beat. Death had ceased her.
I ran outside, searching for my brother, I felt a sudden rush of protection, my blood eyes wet, and my hands covered in blood as I dashed towards the office. When I was in the hallway, my footsteps prominent, I saw the door already opened and light shining through it. My legs trembling of what I was going to witness, I already knew. I slowly lifted my eyes to grasp a view of the room, and saw Cloud, trembling, and infront of him was a frozen blooded statue, it was my father.
My heart skipped few beats as I saw him in the similar position as my mother. I walked up to my brother, covering him in my arms. His collar was wet because of tears, we sat there for hours, trying to grasp the reality, we both did not have any courage to accept truth or avenge. It was morning and cries were heard all around the village, they found out a family in the village with same abilities, unrest spread around the village and they started searching for people. The culprit was within the village and everyone knew of that. No one else can possess such majestic power. I too was shaken by that fact.
It was dark for us, and everything was falling apart. Village’s biggest hero, my dad was dead. Few screams were heard outside the house and they were screaming they found them; I ran outside, and what I see was a women captured by village people. Her eyes were calm, she was ready to accept death, but I knew she wasn’t the one behind this. I tried to stop the villagers but after witnessing her power to channel and manipulate ice, they were sure, and sentenced her to death. Her son Haku was missing, and right in front of my eyes a poor villager was judged.
“She does not have a right to live, kill her.” is what I heard them screaming. A forbidden life, is this what she was living. And soon they came for me… to take away what I was not given choice to live, my cursed life.
Our swords clashed again, and I noticed the urge for a battle dying, the stranger had feeling for me. And he felt my pain; he did not have the cure, but didn’t want to increase. But the next blow was stronger than expected. It was a call that said if you wish to die let me finish you. But now I saw a new reason to live, after all that I was not living a cursed life, I was living “just” a life, protecting what I loved and fighting for what was mine. With that clash we went back into the past, it was that night when he came for me. They knew I had the same ability as that women who was sentenced to death few days ago and they felt it necessary to finish me off too. No one was capable of doing that expect one person, my Brother.
I knew the anger and sadness that was within him will one day erupt and envelop everything that is dear to him, he will not see any bonds but only the need to avenge those who have already left. I left the village in order to delay that day, but it was of no use, when he became aware of my talent he came for me. With the anger I expected and by breaking all the bonds he called me to battle. I could not fight him, but there was no other option, to avoid more innocent killings I had to fight my own brother. He called the rare wind element and with its piercing abilities gave everything that he could, we both battled to the point our bodies could take no more blows. Covered in blood, we gathered power for one final blow. That is when my emotions died and an ice lance appeared in my right hand, while he held a wind scythe. After witnessing the same ice that killed our parents, he held no more, running towards each other with the final roar we swung our weapons towards each other piercing the souls.
“Stop Brother…” I said, my voice breaking in sobs, with his anger he shouted, “Don’t call me that anymore, you are the demon who killed mom and dad” I tried again “ It wasn’t me”… “Its too late, you must die here”. My eyes opened wide in shock, while he coughed blood. It was over; my wound was covered in ice, his scythe broken, while my lance pierced through his abdomen. “I must die…” I whispered. It sounded as it this life was a mistake. I was not supposed to live it anymore. We both fell on the ground, grasping for air. I thought it was over… but he stood again, his hatred overcame his weakness, and he charged again when I tried to stumble, and that is when a crystal kunai appeared in his hand… It was ice. When he noticed the same demonic ability, he stopped dropping the weapon; he started staring his hands and lost the will to live. When a person surrenders himself to death no one can change the outcome, except his/her will. And he surrendered. I saw another life ending before my eyes; I lost the trust to protect, protect those who I loved. After the battle I went to Amegakure and stayed there for a while to learn Rain. [To be continued]
